Citadel

ONE DAY EXCURSION TO THE CITADELLE IN CAP HAITIAN:

• 6.30am — Transfer from the hotel to the Internal Airport
• 7.45 am — Fly to Cap Haitian
• 8.10am — Transfer with Taxi Service to Milot
• 9.00am — Meet with local guide
  • Fully guided tour of the Sans Souci Palace
  • Transfer up to 2nd parking with Metro
  • Horse ride to the Citadelle – approx. 30 mins
  • Fully guided tour of the Citadelle Laferriere
  • Descent into Milot
  • Lunch at Lakou Lakay – a community restaurant during which you will be entertained with a local youth Vodou dance show

• Go to Boutillier lookout – photoshoot + opportunities for souvenirs
• Travel to Fermathe – in the mountains above Petion-Ville
• Visit the Self Help project shop – opportunity to buy embroidery, wood- carvings, ironwork, post cards, tee shirts, local made jams, etc.
• See and buy the street art and handcraft
• Travel to Kenscoff – typical market town in the mountains
• Travel to Fort Jacques – nearly 200 years old with a panoramic view of Port-au-Prince over to the Dominican Republic photoshoot
• 5.00 pm (approx) — Return to Hotel

• 12.30pm — Travel to Cyvadier Plage
• Order Lunch, then a swim in the pool
• After lunch, a swim in the beautiful sandy cove

Gingerbread House

HAITIAN GINGERBREAD HOUSE TOUR

Visit the ancient houses of Port-au-Prince built in the Gingerbread style.  They are colorful and visually appealing. Some of them are dilapidated now but others have been restored or are in the process of being restored.  Because most of them are private houses we will not be able to go inside any of them, but they make a wonderful photoshoot.

You will be driven around in an air-conditioned bus and will have plenty of opportunity to get out and see the houses.  We will also make a refreshment stop at a Gingerbread House which is now a shop called ‘Ambiance’.  The tour will take us through the Bois Verna and Pacot areas and you will be given handouts on each of the houses, together with photocopies of pen and ink drawings of the houses we will see.  However if you keep your eyes open you will see many more Gingerbread Houses not listed in the handout.

• 9.30 am    Pickup from a central point
• 12 midday    Refreshment break at Oloffson
• 1-1.30pm    Return to central point

Haitian Painting

GALLERY/HANDCRAFT  SHOP TOUR — half day

• 9.30 am    Pick-up from Hotel (central Pétion-Ville or central Port-au-Prince)
• Travel to Pétion-Ville seeing market en route
• Visit several Art Galleries*
• Break for refreshments
• Visit Handcraft shops *
• 12.30 pm    Return to Hotel
• Price includes car/Jeep or bus + local guide. Does not include price of refreshments

CROIX DES BOUQUETS

Visit the unique village of Noailles in the area of Croix-des-Bouquets where every house is a metal sculpture workshop. And every workshop has their own different designs, all made out of recycled metal drums or parts of old cars.  There is such a choice that you will need to bring an extra suitcase down to take home all your bargains!!

From Trees of Life, to little metal trivets with dragonflies or butterflies , and beautiful Haitian designed crosses, some in the natural metal color, some in brightly painted colors. From little angels with gold wings to Nativity sets with the characters with gold halos and wings. Also original Vodou designs and masks which will look spectacular on your wall inside or outside. You name it, you can get it here.
